iBSS CDMA Pilot BeaconDownload Information and Specifications (PDF) The iBSS CDMA Pilot Beacon enables network operators to make more efficient use of scarce spectrum resources. By forcing the service redirection of idle mobiles entering the area to a single selected frequency, the Pilot Beacon collapses the network from multiple channels to a single operating frequency. Additionally, deployment of Pilot Beacons improves location accuracy of mobile devices, for location-based services (LBS) or public safety purposes. Fully compliant with 3GPP2 standards and compatible with all CDMA devices on the market, the Pilot Beacon is also capable of supporting multiple CDMA networks, continuously broadcasting in each operating frequency band of each operator providing service in the coverage area. As a constant broadcast network element, it transmits the minimum required CDMA information on each channel simultaneously to redirect devices independently to another system within the network. The Pilot Beacon transmits the Pilot, SYNC and Paging Channels at a given frequency, with the proper timing and the appropriate messaging to the mobile in support of the overall service redirection functionality.
